A North Bay Bed & Breakfast, Ontario |
|
Piebird Bed & Breakfast is located in Nipissing, near North Bay Ontario. North Bay is a short 3 1/2 hour drive from either Toronto or Ottawa and resides along the north shore of Lake Nipissing. North Bay is situated on the Canadian Shield, in a geographically unique piece of land that straddles both the Ottawa River watershed to the east and the Great Lakes Basin to the west. The city's core is located between Lake Nipissing and the smaller Trout Lake, this streach of land and the La Vase Portage within are part of the Alexander Mackenzie Voyageur Route, which historically helped open up the interior of North America. The route was used by First Nations people for centuries, and later by explorers, fur traders and settlers. North Bay Ontario History
In 1882, the CPR started its westward expansion from Bonfield, Ontario (previously called Callander Station) where the first spike was driven to start westward construction. North Bay was settled and became a railroad town. The town grew through a strong lumbering sector, mining and the three railways in the early days. The historic downtown is still thriving and the city is home to Nipissing University and Canadore College. When looking for accommodation in the North Bay region, do check us out at Piebird Bed & Breakfast. |
