What a splendid affair Spring is!
I think Yan and I agree that one of the best parts about Spring is watching the the goats and the cats roll in the freshly tilled earth. Not so good is watching the goats eat all the seed packages whose contents were destined for the garden -- if we don't get the harvest we planned on, we do at least have a good time trying! Our renovations are almost complete on our suite and the new kitchen is nearly ready! Yan has been working very hard to finish it up for me. Oh, except Billy (goat) ate Yan's designs for the kitchen cabinets and the instructions on how to set up the router... Whenever the completion day arrives, there most certainly will be a feast! Another great part about Spring is tapping our Maple trees and boiling down our own syrup. Yummy. Our own maple syrup is used to sweeten some of the goodies served at breakfast, like homemade granola made with all organic oats, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and raisins. Fairly recently we set up our 3rd guestroom with a lovely antique bed from our neighbor and friend Cuddy, the antique dealer from around the corner (most of our antiques come from his shop). Now we can sleep 5 comfortably and once our new kitchen is ready, we can offer the whole house, including the original kitchen to groups or families for a weeks stay. I am looking forward to an exciting Summer of sharing this incredible Historical Home with travellers -- and with locals at some of our house concerts. We have so many supporters, people who adore the house as much as we do -- people who are as appreciative that the house has been restored to its glory -- already the good weather drop-bys have begun, starting with Erle Kahnert, a seasonal neighbor and friend who is also a decendent of the original owner, Waldimer Kahnert and a visit from Betty Lloyd-Etches who lived here in the early 40's and her daughter, Barb who was born in one of the guestrooms upstairs! This is an inspiring place to live, indeed. Happy Spring! |
