Plants used to use brightly coloured fruits, birds, burrs or the wind to aid with their seed dispersal. Now they have us. Our favorite garden friends are now available through our mail-order seed company. Now you can have a taste of Piebird in your own garden! Vegetable seeds and plant friends.

Harvesting for one of our Vegetarian Dinners
Purple Heritage Peas and Giant Cabbage!
Mmm, purple peas that we'll be selling through our heritage seed company, check back for more info. The first white pea flowers of July usually remind me of a giant snowflake snowfall, but not these peas, the flowers are pink!
This has been the perfect summer for growing cabbage! We're growing a few giant ones as an experimental deer deterrents as there's a doe who's taken to coming around and taking away a few bites. I expect once she catches a glimpse of the giant cabbage she'll run away and never come back.
Potatoes and turnips in the carrot field, come book for a vegetarian dinner and you'll surely be eating both!
July's Garden

Last year's carrots are this year's flowers and next year's seed!
Lady's Mantle (above) is such a wonderful friend. It's so beautiful how it holds the morning dew like beads of mercury.

Hoeing Carrots
Extending the front garden with the Kick Sod Ripper
Usually when people say they are watching their garden grow they mean their plants. When we say we are watching our gardens grow we mean in size! We'll be selling these great tools through a organic heirloom seed company we have started. Check back over the next few weeks as the Seed Co. site gets built.
Planting the Carrot Field
The soil has warmed and the field is turned, I spent the last couple of days hand planting the first several rows of carrots. We've been happily hoeing and planting in the gardens for a month now but haven't done any planting in the field until now. We'll be selling our organic carrots at a roadside stand in the fall so hold off buying any of those silly California carrots if you can.
